Yoga classes with shasta

PRENATAL YOGA
Imma Centre’s prenatal yoga classes offer active mothers the opportunity to grow in strength, flexibility and grace. Most of the classes are fluid flows that thread yoga poses through very well prepared creative sequences specifically designed by myself for a pregnant body. Many mothers are surprised that they can still do many yoga postures that they were told in normal yoga classes to avoid. This is because, having had four pregnancies and practiced yoga through each, I understand on a very deep level what feels good, what is safe and more importantly, how to modify and sequence the postures to suit pregnancy right up until birth.

The prenatal yoga classes teach expecting mothers so much more than just poses; women learn about how to carry a pregnancy with confidence and courage, how to manage common pregnancy difficulties, what poses will help align baby for a good birth, how to use yoga movement during labour, what breathing techniques will help during labour, and how to tone tight pelvic floor muscles that know how to relax for birth, and how to avoid diastasis recti - otherwise know as abdominal separation.

Some classes turn to the healing qualities of yin yoga; if mothers-to-be can learn to relax within intensity of deep ligament and joint stretches during yin yoga, they can apply the same principles to birth. Restorative poses, such as the beautiful “Queen of Sheba”, use props to enable the deepest states of relaxation. Most classes are ended with restorative poses.

POSTNATAL YOGA
Imma Centre’s postnatal classes give new mothers the opportunity to get out the house, but still get to a yoga class with baby. The classes are not mum and baby yoga, but rather give mum some time to get back into her body with baby close by.
The focus is on reintegrating the core, healing diastasis recti, moving into full stretches again as strength is slowly built up over several weeks.

We work hard during class but it does tend to turn into a social meet up after class as mums share experiences and give support to anyone struggling with the common new babies issues. There is always a wider mother who has been through similar experiences before! The postnatal WhatsApp group is active, helpful and wonderfully supportive.

OPEN FLOW
Open flow is a strong vinyasa style with creative sequences and deep stretches within the sweatiness.
The classes are open to the wider public, not only pre and postnatal students.
