I am passionate about supporting women through pregnancy, birth and early motherhood. Doula, yoga teacher, Biodynamic CranioSacral Therapist and mother to four children, I bring extensive knowledge and sensitivity to the yoga classes. My intention is to create a safe space for mother and baby, away from the intensity and busy-ness of our every day activities, a place to slow down the momentum of life and connect to breath and baby. Equilibrium Centre is a stunning oasis in the city, an intimate and quiet retreat exclusively used for pre and postnatal yoga, away from the usual pumping yoga studio environments.
Prenatal classes constantly evolve and change according to the needs of the mothers on any given day. We sometimes practice stronger flow yoga, at times a softer yin and restorative practice to bring balance and on occasion a therapeutic practice gives the body the opportunity for deep opening. When a mother is close to birth or in labour during class, the practice will include early labour movements and breath work for labour and birth.
Quiet time at the beginning and end of each class brings mother and baby into each other's soft presence - time to reflect on the deeper happenings within and the incredible journey mother and baby are on together.
Postnatal classes are geared towards supporting core integration, healing diastasis recti (abdominal separations) and giving new mothers an opportunity to feel their way back into their body after birth. Classes are often busy, noisy and fluid as baby comes with and mum stops to feed or see to baby’s needs at various intervals during class. Often new mothers take advantage of the beautiful grounds to stay after class for social chats and support. The postnatal group is an incredibly supportive environment, helping parents navigate the new terrain with the help of fellow travellers.
Open flow classes offer vinyasa classes, open to the public and often used as a transition for mothers who have found a strong practice again, ready to bridge the gap and return to normal yoga studios.

“Through her prenatal yoga classes and also as a doula, Shasta has helped me tremendously in building the confidence I needed for a serene birthing experience. Her prenatal yoga classes are not only excellent to prepare physically and emotionally for birth and motherhood, but also provide a joyful gathering of women at different stages of pregnancy. I definitely recommend Shasta’s energy, experience and passion in any transition to motherhood.” Lara Martens
